A towable RV is a different storage problem to a motorhome. There is no engine to maintain, but there is a hitch or a kingpin eating length, a tall profile that fights canopy clearance, and no way to reposition it without the tow vehicle. Measure the rig hitched up, pick a bay with real turning room, and check the height limit before you book. Our covered bays run up to 12′ x 80′.
Most RV storage advice is written for motorhomes, and most of the maintenance half of it does not apply to you. What does apply, and what nobody covers properly, is the geometry. A travel trailer that fits a bay on paper can still be a nuisance to park if the aisle is tight, and a fifth wheel’s kingpin overhang catches people out constantly.
Here is the towable-specific version.
What size bay does a travel trailer, fifth wheel or toy hauler need?
Measure the rig coupled to the tow vehicle, bumper to bumper, and add a few feet. A typical travel trailer in the low-to-mid twenties fits a 12′ x 40′ bay comfortably. A larger travel trailer or most fifth wheels want 12′ x 60′. A long fifth wheel or a toy hauler with a ramp door you need to open usually needs 12′ x 80′.
Three measurements catch people out. Overall length includes the A-frame and the spare carrier at the back, not just the box. Height includes the air conditioner shroud, the antenna and any solar, which is what decides whether a canopy bay works. Kingpin overhang on a fifth wheel means the front of the trailer sits over the truck bed, so the coupled length is shorter than the sum of the two vehicles, which works in your favour if you measure it rather than guess.
The Hideout’s covered bays come in 12′ x 25′, 12′ x 40′, 12′ x 60′ and 12′ x 80′ with 30 amp electric. Outdoor spaces take oversized rigs that will not fit under a canopy at all. Our RV, boat and trailer storage size guide walks through measuring properly, and if what you are storing is a utility, cargo or boat trailer rather than a towable RV, our trailer storage guide is the better page.
Why does turning room matter more for a towable than a motorhome?
Because you cannot nudge a travel trailer into place by hand, and backing one needs room that a motorhome does not. A driver in a motorhome can make small corrections easily. With a trailer, every correction is a reverse maneuver, and a tight aisle turns a thirty second park into a ten minute one with someone standing behind you.
Fifth wheels turn more sharply than bumper-pull trailers but need more vertical clearance at the pivot, and a bumper-pull jack-knifes in far less space than new owners expect. The honest test is to walk the site with your actual rig before you commit, at the time of day you will normally arrive.
The Hideout was designed around wide drive aisles and turning radius, which is a decision a facility either made when it was built or cannot retrofit. Access is 24/7 through the mobile gate app, so you are not parking a 35 foot rig in the dark because a gate closed at six. The site is gated with AI-powered security cameras, and it was named Toy Storage Nation’s Facility of the Month in March 2026.
What does travel trailer storage cost in Naples?
At The Hideout, outdoor storage runs $175 to $230 per month and covered storage runs $375 to $620 per month plus tax, with 30 amp electric and a canopy on the covered bays. There is no contract required on outdoor spaces, which suits an owner whose rig leaves for the summer.
The covered premium buys you shade, and in this climate shade is not cosmetic. Roof membranes, decals, window seals and tires all degrade under constant UV, and a towable RV spends more of its life parked than driven. Our RV storage cost guide for Naples covers pricing in more depth, month to month versus long term contracts covers the term question, and climate-controlled, covered and outdoor storage compares the three products.
Why can’t I just keep it at home?
In most of Collier County, because your HOA or deed restrictions say so. Covenants in this area routinely prohibit parking a travel trailer or fifth wheel in a driveway or anywhere visible from the street, and they are enforced by the association rather than the county, so the rules can be stricter than local code.
That is the single most common reason people call us. Our guides to Naples HOA and RV storage rules and what to do when your HOA will not let you store your boat or RV at home cover how those covenants usually read and what your options are. Read your own documents before assuming the driveway is available, even temporarily for loading.
What should you do to a towable before it sits for the summer?
Dump and flush the tanks, leave the valves closed, and put a little water and tank treatment in the black tank so the seals do not dry out. Cover or shade the tires. Take the batteries off or put them on a maintainer, because Florida heat is harder on an RV battery than cold is. Leave roof vents slightly open under a cover if you can do it without letting rain in, because a sealed trailer in a Florida summer grows mildew.
Then check the roof sealant, because that is the failure that ruins a trailer rather than inconveniencing it. Our complete Southwest Florida RV storage checklist covers the full routine and how to prepare your RV for long-term storage is the shorter version. For the tanks specifically, see our guide to RV dump stations near Naples and Collier County, and note The Hideout has a dump station onsite.
Towables also have running gear that gets forgotten precisely because there is no engine to service. Bearings, brakes, tires and lights all need the same attention a boat trailer needs, and the principles carry over from our guide to boat trailer maintenance in saltwater country.
A short checklist before you book a bay
Confirm the height limit in writing and compare it against your air conditioner shroud, not your brochure height. Confirm the bay length against your coupled measurement. Walk the aisle you will reverse into. Confirm access is genuinely around the clock rather than during office hours. Confirm whether power is available at the bay if you want a battery maintainer running. Confirm the surface drains, because a yard that ponds in August will bog a heavy tandem axle.
If you are also storing other vehicles, the service areas page covers Naples, Marco Island and Bonita Springs, and all products are on the storage options page.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to store a travel trailer?
It depends on bay size and whether you want cover. At The Hideout outdoor storage runs $175 to $230 per month and covered storage runs $375 to $620 per month plus tax. Larger bays sit at the upper end of each range, and outdoor spaces require no contract.
What is the most affordable way to store a trailer?
An open outdoor space at a dedicated vehicle storage park is usually the cheapest secure option, and it is considerably cheaper than a covered bay. The saving is real, but a towable parked in full Florida sun ages faster, so weigh the monthly difference against roof, seal and tire life.
How much does it cost to store a 20 foot trailer?
A 20 foot travel trailer, measured coupled, generally fits a 12′ x 25′ or 12′ x 40′ bay depending on your tow vehicle, which puts it at the lower end of our ranges. Call with the coupled length and we will tell you which bay fits and what that bay costs.
Can I store a fifth wheel without the truck attached?
Yes, and most people do. A fifth wheel sits on its landing gear in the bay, which frees the truck. Make sure the landing gear has pads under it so the feet do not sink into the surface, and confirm the bay length against the trailer alone rather than the coupled measurement.
Is it better to store an RV inside or outside in Florida?
Covered beats open for a towable in this climate, because UV and rain cycling are what degrade roofs, decals, seals and tires. Fully enclosed is better again but is not something we offer for RVs: our only air conditioned product is long-term car storage. Covered with 30 amp electric is the practical sweet spot here.
